Christy Johnson

Ceramics

Christy Johnson is recognized for her lengthy career as a studio potter. She studied ceramics at Otis College of Art and Design under Ralph Bacerra and with Phil Cornelius at Pasadena City College. She has participated in many exhibitions where she received awards for her ceramic work. She has a been featured speaker for art groups, led hands-on workshops, and served on jury panels. After 20 years in the ceramics field, Johnson gradually shifted to producing and curating art exhibitions. In 1999 she accepted a full-time curatorial position with the Millard sheets Center for the Arts at Fairplex and in 2004 she became the Founding Director of the American Museum of ceramic Art in Pomona. After retirement from AMOCA, Johnson continued to operate as an independent curator and author, but most importantly she returned to making ceramic work in her own studio. For the last eight years Johnson has enjoyed sharing her skills and knowledge with students at Creative Arts Group.
